May 21, 2025
Hawai‘i Island — To help Hawai‘i Island families secure a simple and durable place to live, CU Hawaii Federal Credit Union donated $12,500 to Habitat For Humanity Hawaii Island (HFH) leveraging a matching grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB). The funds to Habitat For Humanity Hawaii Island will be dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes.
“We are excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity through our donation and contributing manpower to provide more housing in the Puna District.” said CU Hawaii CEO/President James Takamine.
HFH Executive Director Chris Patulski expressed gratitude, stating, “We are thankful to CU Hawaii for submitting our organization as a recipient of the matching grant opportunity with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. The funds and volunteerism of CU Hawaii employees will certainly help us as we steadily continue our work to build safe, decent and affordable homeownership opportunities on Hawaii Island.”
In partnership with FHLB’s Member Impact Fund, CU Hawaii has provided donations totaling over $56,000 (including the matching donation) in the past three years to nonprofit organizations in Hawai‘i to increase affordable housing and support local community development efforts.
